Unsettled Spring in Tacoma
Author: DelMonteX

We've had an interesting few days around "T" town, from Sunny, to reports of a tornado and back to a little sun today. As nearly always, train are running through it all. Here's a few interesting scenes from the past few days.

1) One of BNSF's two Tideflats locals, pulling empties at the NuStar refinery.

2) A little bit of street running.

3) One of Sound Transit's new MP36's bringing a train in to the Tacoma Dome station over the old Milwaukee Main Trestle (note the logo below the lead trucks).

4) Another angle on SDRX 921 as it leaves to head back to Seattle to pick up another load of commuters. The trestle is not long for this world, as Sound Transit has a new two track structure scheduled to replace it in the next year or two.

5) Here's the other Tideflats local serving what I believe is it's only customer on the east side of the Puyallup river.

6) Saturday brought more unsettled weather which featured at least 5 rainbows (for me anyway). This almost got away before I got to the right spot.

7) This isn't exactly what most people expect to find at the end of a rainbow. At least it's gold colored.

8) Posing for the shot. Question is, which one is moving?

9) Here's UP 8753 as a squall blows through. Is this one of the new SD70AH's ?

Always like your photos, Steve. Thanks for posting them.

Photo 8, that's a big speed differential between Talgos at 57 mph and regular passenger trains at 30 mph. Why such a large spread?

Curves - Talgos tilt or superliners fall over (or slow down).

Thanks for the wonderful photos. Tacoma is a beautiful city even if it is mostly industrial. I didn't know Sounder had any MP36s, since when?

Photo 8: I laughed so hard at that caption, please pursue a future in comedy, that's fabulous.

Photo 9: The Talgo is moving. Or the SD70ACe is a DPU...either way, it doesn't have its lights on.

Look again Tor, the SD70ACe has his headlight on. It's on the DIM setting.

An unusual occurrence, Cascades 509 had to wait for a north bound coal train to clear the Nelson Bennett tunnel.
