Cajon and Needles Subdivision Railfanning
Author: z-trains

Yesterday my Father and I went out to the Cajon subdivision in search of a westbound train at a new location, an overlook on the west side of Oro Grande. That didn't turn out so well, the ATCS server to Cajon was down, and we missed 3 trains due to it. We only caught 1 westbound at North Victorville and a pair of Eastbounds at the overlook. Moving up to Barstow, we intercepted a westbound BARSDG as it pulled its cut of cars out of the yard on its trip to San Diego. After getting lunch over in Lenwood, we decided to head over to Daggett, since there were high clouds building in and they would block any shot we would attempt to make it we tried our luck again on the Cajon Subdivision. After we arrived at Daggett, a Westbound UP train called the dispatcher for permission to enter the BNSF main. The clouds started to build in right as the M-NPWC came around the super-elevated curve at Daggett, however (of course!) so the shot was ruined. We then began a race out to Newberry Springs to beat out the clouds, which, for the rest of the afternoon, hang over the Daggett/Nebo/Barstow area, clearing the areas east of there. We set up at a road crossing at Minneola, a few miles west of Newberry Springs, where a hot intermodal train with a fresh ES44C4 blasted by. We then set up a mile East for a Tacoma-bound stack train with a pair of CP leasers, one ES44AC, and one AC4400CW. Next, we headed to the Hector Area. After two Eastbounds passed in front of the late Huell Howser's place of residence, we headed up the hill to the reverse curves at West Pisgah, where a Westbound auto train snaked through the 2 sets of S-curves located there. We then relocated to East Pisgah at the "Dip" located at that location and caught an Eastbound and a Westbound. We then moved over to Lavic and caught a meet between an Eastbound and a Westbound. Moving back to East Pisgah, we caught a Westbound Intermodal train, and it kept pace with us almost to Newberry Springs. but by that time the clouds had rolled in and the light was done for the day. For our last shot, we headed down to the "Bottle Tree Farm", located on Route 66 South of Helendale, where a Westbound passed jut as the sun set. The full video is being uploaded on my YouTube page, Railfanjunction.

Nice video. Burlington Northern Santa Fe running them hot and heavy in the desert. I like the bottles on the "tree". That's different. Thanks for sharing.
