Pinkbonnet at Dusk (Stockton, CA)
Author: cchan006

Jmf1910 and I ended up in Stockton last Thursday while trying to catch the UP 1983 heading to West Colton. Unfortunately, the WP Heritage Unit ended up buried as a nose-coupled front DPU on a 3x2 manifest, but we stuck around and got a little gem at the Stockton Diamonds later in the day, a solo Pinkbonnet B40-8W switching a long cut of cars out of Mormon Yard.

A westbound 4x0 BNSF manifest (BARRIC?) then runs in front of it, with a pool power CSX GEVO second in consist. The third unit (BNSF 653) might have been a Warbonnet at one time? Entire train is shown. The video ends with the Pinkbonnet shoving the cars back into Mormon Yard.

I found a certain dignity in seeing this Dash 8 working regardless of the faded paint job. Long live the Santa Fe and the Leslie S3 horn!

Cool video. Diamonds and speed are music to these ears.

Excellent timing. That dash 8 is a real old unit.

Before the BNSF merger, the warbonnet GE's (500's, 600's, 800's, 900's) showed up with S-3L's and the EMD's (100's, 200's) with K5LA's. After the merger, the 700-series GE's showed up with K3LA's, and it just didn't feel right to hear that "EMD sound" coming from a GE.

The K5HL on the GEVO is a worthy successor, projecting the same kind of "comin' through, outta my way" attitude as the S-3L.

The EMD GP60s had K3LA's - didn't they?

Yes, the 600 in the westbound was delivered as a "Warbonnet."

Nice video.

Those GE six-axle trucks really do a good dance over those diamonds! GRET SHOW, even if I have a headache now. =)

Oops - my brain said K3LA but my fingers typed K5LA. Thanks for catching that. The 100's and 200's came with K3LA's, and Santa Fe never purchased a new locomotive with a K5LA.
