UP gives Roseville a rotary snow plow
Author: donstrack

I found this today.

"Roseville has been awarded membership in Union Pacific’s Train Town USA Registry and presented with Union Pacific’s rotary snow plow SPMW 7221. This historic railroad snow removal plow will be on permanent display on Atlantic Street just outside Union Pacific’s J.R. Davis Yard in Roseville."

That's pretty neat. Thanks UP.

It's been on display for about a month now. Pretty cool of them to do.

Seems like I read the news here once before and kept hoping someone caught the crane action to move it to static display site, but nothing posted yet...

Was moved using 4 Dobbas Construction side caster cats from running track to display track.

Very nice donation. And in the right city.

But: is the UP really that sure they will not need
this rotary in the future on the Hill?

Don't they have 3 or 4 others?

I believe the one that was donated had been out of service for a long time. It was at least not one of the ones on standby for regular use.

I went through Roseville two weeks ago and stopped to touch the plow. It is one of those things you have to be able to get close to see how the blade worked.

There is currently no fence around it, but it looks like one could be installed to match the fence around the adjacent steamer.

They have kept four of the original nine SP Rotaries.
It is the UP's railroad so it must be enough.
