Newly repainted ex-SP SD70M on the Austin Sub
Author: PALuvR

I went out this morning for a little while and caught a beauty leading a NB empty grain train at Bergstrom on the UP Austin Sub just south of Austin, TX. About 30 minutes prior, I got a NB Baird Sub detour with a pair of EMD's at Manchaca (MP 190) on the Austin Sub.

Appreciate y'all taking a look.

Mike

1. Fresh out of the paint shop, UP 3974 is looking mighty sharp.
2. UP 5178 and 4333 lead a NB detouring stack train.

Doesn't look like it has a "Building America" with the shield. Looks clean...I like it.

Did you happen to get the paint date off the long hood? Tony

Anyone know why UP repainted 3974 again? It had already been repainted from SP to the flag scheme once before. Interesting that they applied the American flag again, as SD70M repaints don't usually get the flag.

Here's a close-up if anyone is interested. And no, I'm sorry but I didn't get the date off the long hood.

Mike, I think Tony is interested in the writing down on the far left of the last photo. If you can do a 100% crop (no resizing), it might be readable.

Thanks Mike for the rostershot! and thanks Ryan for the help. Maybe the UP 3974 will be joining the xSP SD70m's in Northern California. Tony

Yet another oddball NLR repaint to add to the list! Repainted a second time with the flat, but this time with no large UPRR shield and 'BUILDING AMERICA' on the long hood.

Due in Council Bluffs, Iowa at 03:17 on 7/26/14. Maybe someone along the line can get the paint date if still needed. Assuming it's still in the consist.

Well, I'm sure you've heard about the blind hog even finding an acorn now and then. That's me! Thanks to all for your responses and positive comments.

That's pretty wild seeing this unit painted a second time in yellow. The mojority of the fleet's earliest 70's haven't even been repainted once. Plus, she retained the non-standard SP plow ontop of it! Long live the SP!
