Great camera work and editing! Is all the sound from the track side camcorder or is the sound of the train able to overcome the sound of the quadcopter?

My personal opinion of those "drone" videos is that they produce to much side distortion and really further distort the whole affect when the curvature of the earth becomes a distraction. Well anyhow, that's only my opinion. Thanks anyway.

Paul,
Thanks for the nice comment.
The audio for the opening scene with the quad flying over to the cut was taken from my trackside camcorder. The audio for the scene with the train approaching/pull-away quad thru the cut was taken from a previous visit from above that cut using my trackside camcorder and the rest of the audio for the quad was taken from my trackside camcorder. The original audio from the quad is wind distortion with props buzzing away.

Hi Jim,
I tend to agree with you about the "fish-eye" effect. My GoPro was set at "wide". There are two other choices; medium and narrow. I'm going to try "narrow" during my next visit.
IMHO I think the "wide" worked out okay for this video. BTW-this is all new to me and this was my second attempt at shooting trains with this gear. Right now I'm just trying to figure it all out.

Thanks for watching the video.

Well done, George. I agree that the ultra-wide angle is okay for some shots, but can be over used. Go-Pro shoots with a more viewable width, though one seldom sees such views, I think rail fanning is one area that can be shot in normal AND wide-angle.

By the way, I just bought your #4014 chase DVD and it is GREAT.

Is the camera mount on the copter gyro-stabilized or what?

Hi George,I appreciate the use of the use of the drone, but may l make a suggestion. I think in my opinion if you were to fly away from overhead and get some sign views and at just a little lower altitude they would be more effective. The mixing of the drone and your camcorder is a great idea and as always your videos are a treat to watch. Just a thought, keep up the good work.

I appreciate the new views the drones allow. Since this was only George's 2nd time out, I'm sure he'll experiment and come up with a good mix of views, maybe even mix in ground shots with drone views. Keep up the good work, George!

real nice George ... i'm learning new things everyday i go up ... i wish i had the open views you guys out west have ... i'm have to settle for the urban and suburban setting views for now until i can hopefully recover and get better so i am able to travel further than a 1/2 hr from my house

Very nice early test work! I've thought about doing this on the West Slope in PA. Integrating the sound--getting rid of the drone's drone--is critical to quality. You're definitely onto something with your approach to audio. Keep it up! Are you posting these on YouTube? I run a couple Facebook pages and will share if I can link to them.

Update: I found you on You Tube.
