on the road again . .
Author: 3rdswitch

. . departed today for the right coast to attend a wedding in New Jersey with a couple of visits to both friends and rail junctions along the way. This morning prior to leaving Palmer Lake, CO, located on the joint UP-BNSF Denver Pueblo Joint Line, a hot tip netted my first photo of UP's Rio Grande heritage unit leading a late (thank goodness!) Pueblo to Denver manifest through Palmer Lake (top). On the way to a quick stop at father in laws in Goodland, KS, passed the westbound KYLE Limon turn just east of Stratton but with many miles to go and no exit for miles had to let him go. After departing Goodland for dinner in Hays and a quick overnight in Salina and after another hot tip had to make a quick stop at a grain elevator just east of Wakeeney, KS on the KP as an empty grain train was there with a nice trio of Mexicans which were cut off the west end of the train in the elevator tracks (middle and bottom). Next stop Centralia, IL, crossing of BNSF, NS and CN exIC mains. . . .

Never seen foreign power on the KYLE like that!

Great to see 1989 back home!

In the second photograph, it looks like the derail is in the derail position. Of course it isn't cause the next picture has the locomotive clearing that portion of the track.

Yeah, your right the derail switch has not been switched! Obviously, the crew must've noticed or knew about it, or the next photo would be a much different result!
