Twilite shots on the Needles sub.
Author: syscom3

On my way back from Kingman, I took Rte 66 from Needles and was at Essex when the sun finally started to get low in the sky.

Picture 1: An eastbound intermodal is lit up by the setting sun. It's slowly heading up the incline towards Fenner. This was taken between I-40 and the Rte 66 bridge. In the background is the Piute Mts, still catching the last of the days rays.

Picture 2: A late afternoon thunderstorm over the Sheephole Mountains is starting to dissipate. In the meantime, a westbound intermodal is plowing along. Picture was taken at Essex.

Picture 3: A pair of helper engines is heading east back to Needles. Again, the Piute Mts are still lit by the waning sun.

Picture 1: I was just east of Chamblis when I stopped to take a picture of the sunset. There is no alterations to the origional picture. This is exactly what a sunset in the desert southwest looks like.

Picture 2: "Holding at Bagdad". I was at the Amboy crossing waiting for a eastbound manifest to go on by. West of there, I saw a train holding up waiting for the signal to proceed.

Picture 3: "No longer holding at Bagdad". The eastbound train is on the move.

Thats all the pictures form my Saturday trip. I will now start to work on the video.

Excellent photos! You've got some serious cajones to brave that heat!

Yeah! And pretty rare to boot. Four matched H2 C44-9Ws leading a hi-priority pig train? In 2014? No H3/wedgies, no GEvos? May as well have been photographed in the early 2000s!
