Western Railroad Discussion > another Joint Line day . . .Date: 09/01/14 17:34 another Joint Line day . . . Author: 3rdswitch . . . The day started out with a southbound coal load seen from my window led by a pair of CREX leasors that I could only watch go by which went into the siding at Monument to meet three north. Shortly after I met up with a few guys at the Baptist Road trailhead for a thirteen mile round trip bike ride on the Santa Fe Trail from south of Monument up to Palmer Lake and back. This trail is the exSanta Fe right of way south of Palmer Lake, CO which paralells the joint UP-BNSF Denver Pueblo Joint Line main. During the rige the three trains went north, two BNSF and a UP, then the southbound BNSF coal load with CREX leaders left Monument siding and the first southbound waiting north of Palmer Lake which was a BNSF manifest also passed. About the time we returned the next southbound was a BNSF vehicle train led by an unfortunately filthy CP unit passing Monument siding (top) where I met up with a fellow TO member and after chatting awhile the next southbound which was a BNSF stack train appeared also led by a CP unit (middle) which entered the siding at Monument (middle) but continued right on through south ending the morning rounds. Later in the afternoon I headed out once again when I saw a northbound UP rail train caught approaching Palmer Lake (bottom) . . . six more to come . . .

Author: 3rdswitch . . . after the passing of the UP rail train I noticed the track here could use a little work (top) then a bit later a northbound BNSF empty grain train passed the same spot (middle). After these two north I headed down (up?) to the Sag ( a near level area a couple of miles north of Palmer Lake where heavy southbounds that will have to wait to enter the single track at Palmer Lake normally wait ) to see what was waiting there and there sat a couple of very new CREX leasors just powering up to continue their climb to Palmer Lake (bottom) . . . three more . . .

Author: 3rdswitch . . . . another shot one mile north of Palmer Lake at MP 51 (top) as well as his pair of brand new ACe DPU's rounding the curve at Palmer Lake (middle) then back north to see what else might be coming which turned out to be another southbound BNSF coal load approaching the SAG at MP 50 (bottom) where he would sit for only a short time before continuing his soutward climb. Just another beautiful day in the neighborhood.

Must have just passed each other. I shot the leaders just south of where you did and shot theDPU's pretty much were you took the shots of the CREX Units. Nice shots. Ben
