Excellent morning in the neighborhood . .
Author: 3rdswitch

. . for clearity the neighborhood being Palmer Lake, CO, located on the busy joint UP-BNSF Denver Pueblo Joint Line main. After watching a couple of UP northbounds pass through Palmer Lake and with info that a northbound BNSF coal empty was coming with a KCS Belle leader and a beautiful clear late summer morning, at least three more northbounds coming, there was only one thing to do, head on out to Greenland and wait it out to see if one of them was the KCS. Fortunatley the first one was not the KCS as my camera did nothing due to a dead battery so quickly used my trusty back up Sony Cybershot to catch the northbound BNSF manifest with a leasor second out as well as a DPU which is not a common occurance on northbounds. After a battery change out (never leave home without a spare) next train turned out to be the KCS led northbound coal empty followed by a pleasant surprise as a nice clean CP leased unit led the next northbound empty. With five north now passed it was time for the southbound backup to start flowing south onto the single track at Palmer Lake. . . three more to come . . .

. . the first out southbound was a typical BNSF coal train with an ugly dirty patched up MAC which I let slide but the second was an empty container trains of all JB Hunt containers which runs about once a week or so caught at Monument siding (top) followed by another typical BNSF southbound coal load in downtown Monument with a little fall color starting to show (middle) followed by another run of the mill BNSF southbound coal loads approaching Monument with Ben Lomand mountain in the background (bottom) ending a great nine train morning in the neighborhood.
