This One Was a Head Scratcher
Author: RonSD70

A couple of months ago I was out and about running errands and came upon a commotion on Pacific Street in Rocklin, CA. As I got closer I saw the car on its side in picture one. I decided to stop and grab my camera and take a picture. I was looking for the other car when I looked to my left and lo and behold, there was the power and the crew for the LRR62 local, nicknamed the Rocklin Rocket, stopped on the spur that comes off the westbound #1 track on the Roseville Sub. They switch Taiga Forest Products a couple of times a week. They probably aren't going much faster than 5 mph when crossing Pacific, and they usually stop before crossing Pacific to make sure the gates are down. Sure enough, the car and train collided at the crossing. So how does someone get hit by a train that is going so slow? Probably what the driver was being asked in the third picture.

No way to fool proof a crossing from fools.

And yes, this is a remote control equipped unit, but none of the three-member crew was wearing a belt pack (at least when I was there taking pictures), so it didn't look like a remote control incident. (Update - noted below this isn't a RCO unit.)

I remember seeing a car that somehow got hit by the little train that goes around a park in Houston. I saved the picture and still get a chuckle out of that one.

Ron,

Pretty sure this isn't a remote control operation unit (RCO) since it doesn't have the sticker stating it on the nose of the locomotive nor having the gumball flashers on both sides..

No RCO antennas either.

Not a remote job. The engineer is in the 2nd picture with the Giants hat on.

Oops, thought it was one of RCO units. My mistake.

My wife and I were at that park last weekend. As that train came by we wondered what the final results were in that accident (with some chuckles).

Snow plow doubled for a 'car' catcher in this collision. Also show the momentum involved to roll that car....

That doesn't mean that the other unit wasn't an RCL and controlling, with this unit leading this particular movement (which would require the RCO to be reiding the leading cab or the platform on the point).
