This publication arrived today and it is somewhat disappointing as most of what is in the issue is old news. The color photo reproduction is fantastic. I cannot believe Cat and EMD couldn't come up with a Tier 4 locomotive when they had plenty of time to develop one. I cannot believe CAT will let EMD swing in the wind for two years wile GE hogs up the market.

Well how much money did GM pour into EMD in their final years of ownership for research and development? How much money did the first buyer pour into EMD under their ownership for research and development? How much employee turnover was there from when GM sold EMD to when Cat bought them? Did the company that bought EMD from GM really have a plan to develop anything new, or just continue cranking out the same old same old with maybe some electrical/electronic upgrades? All things to consider on why EMD is where they are at.

These Tier 4 posts are getting to be just as common as UP steam postings. Time for pop corn.

You can bet your bippy that Cat is pouring money into developing a Tier 4 engine. They paid a lot of money for EMD and will not let that go for nothing.

CAT probably got the purchase cost back through screwing of employees already. You might be able to find grunts to throw engines together cheap, but talented developers not so much.

Get real. Go back to reading tabloid magazine articles about B-25 bombers on the dark side of the moon.

I was not being rude with my comments
just factual. Nor would I ever be
that way on the forum.

Oil bath air pre-cleaners have been used for years
on gas and diesel engines and air compressors.

They are easier to take care of and maintain
and require no filter fabric or filter cartriges.

They also have slightly less than one percent
restriction on air instakes for engines with
and without turbochargers of all types and
air compressors.


I made the comment based on my 22 year
involvement with diesel engines used
in underground mining which used water
scrubbers for diesel exhaust.

Water scrubbers were used for diesel
exhaust fumes for years and are used
on some ocean going ships now with much
larger Sulzer engines.

I hope that clarifies the issue for you as
I do not require the need for examining
the dark side of the Moon for B-25 bombers.

or has it been emptied of equipment and razed?

While this works for particulate emissions, it is my understand wont do a thing for the NO and CO emissions. Which is the big thing that the US EPA is regulating.

The Oxycatalyst pellets are what cleans the exhaust further stripping the carbon dioxide and Nitrogen dioxide
