How about a little train ride along Puget Sound??
Author: kjangel

The BNSF Scenic Subdivision or Scenic Sub is about 155 miles long and runs from Seattle, Washington to Wenatchee, Washington.

This video starts about 16 miles (CP 16) north of downtown Seattle (King Street Station) and runs for a few miles. The track runs on the along the banks of Puget Sound and is one of the prettiest I have seen. The water was clear and it was a nice sunny early fall day. I thought you would enjoy a short ride too. I you ever are in Seattle ride the Sounder train between Seattle and Everett and you can see it for yourself.

NOTE ** The Sounder cab-cars have passenger seats that can look out the front window.

Very nice. I bet the railroad just loves all the folks who have beach access steps built in right up to the right of way (see last 30 seconds or so).

I love the cab ride videos. That line reminds me of the picturesque line between Los Angeles and San Diego along the Pacific Ocean. I notice some of the tracks along the water come very close to the water. I would imagine that part of the line is inspected quite frequently. Thanks for the great scenery.

Good show! From the looks of things, there seems to be plans to add 2 MT through Edmonds, no?

Yes, part of the original Seattle-Everett Sounder agreement.

Nice video!

I see where the railgrinder went when it left Tacoma.

Couple of questions.

What train # was this. Why no stop in Edmonds?

Was the train full?

Nice video of some very beautiful scenery. Is this line used by the Seattle to Vancouver, BC Talgos? I've ridden from Portland to Tacoma and enjoyed that part of the Sound, looks like the ride north is just as nice.

Yes, used by the Talgos. On the first curve, you'll see a speed limit sign of 50 for the Talgos T-50.

And not just the water level . . more frequently landslides from the steep hillsides on the right . . . . line has been closed many times in the past 2-3 years. Amtrak on a couple of occasions, when the line re-opened, ran a special fare from Vancouver BC to Seattle for $19 one way . . . it costs more in gas to drive that distance! Unless you have a Prius.

Great clip . . . love seeing these from this perspective.

Main 1 is next to the water. During storms with a strong onshore wind at high tide, breakers would come over the sea wall and sometimes over Main 1. We would give Mud Sharks (track inspectors back in Ancient Times when the line was inspected during storms to make sure that it was safe for trains - material for another story when I get time) Main 2 so that they wouldn't be susceptible to derailing or being swept out to sea (particularly in the days of motor cars).

Good stuff and thanks. The commuter trains in New Mexico also have a seat where you can see out ahead like this.I love the welded rail, but the car you were in had a small flat spot on the wheel noticeable more just as you were pulling away than at track speed. Thanks again and I am sure I speak for a lot of us when say I am looking for more.
