Western Railroad Discussion > I flipped my bike for this!?!?Date: 10/20/14 18:03 I flipped my bike for this!?!? Author: mg8711 Or...sit down a second and let me tell ya one of those "we've all done crazy things to get a shot" stories...
Usual day, usual bike ride right up until I was a quarter mile away from where I was headed, that being the Big Blue River bridge here in Manhattan. I was riding along at a comfortable pace when I familiar horn could be heard in the distance. "Okay pick up the pace a little, get on the highway and get to the crossing, I've got time" WRONG! Oh I got to the highway and got to the crossing I wanted, like the bridges, about 1/4th of a mile away from where the story started but the thing about Manhattan, Kansas is it has a rush hour similar to, but not as slow as that of major cities. Just a bunch of cars in a short amount of time at a high rate of speed. It seemed to take me forever to cross both lanes of the highway, wait, cross one, wait, cross the other. By the time I got across the eastbound lanes of the highway the gates were coming down and the lights were flashing, and that familiar horn was accompanied by a familiar headlight and was a familiar distance that was much closer than I had hoped. I was thinking "rear brake" but my left hand decided "front brake" so my bike's rear end flips up in the air, I land on me feet, jump over my handle bars and pull out my camera from my rather uncomfortably tight jeans pocket. Fortunately one with a point and shoot doesn't necessarily have to precompose a shot. So a grab shot as it is. I think I did alright for myself, you tell me and hey, maybe with this thread we can start a "Maniac Monday" or something. 1) UP 7156 leads a westbound empty coal train approaching Waste Water Treatment Plant Road just after crossing the Big Blue River in Manhattan, KS on October 20th, 2014. Thanks for flipping over and reading this! Lucas Date: 10/20/14 18:17 Re: I flipped my bike for this!?!? Author: lilwes Ya did good son!
