Western Railroad Discussion > BNSF westbound on Nicollet Island

All photos shot October 17th, 2014 in Minneapolis, MN. Not many photos seem to be shot on Nicollet Island. I was happy to catch something.

#1 Looking west towards downtown Minneapolis. A westbound is coming soon.

#2 Slowing rolling across Nicollet Island. Tie work had been done recently on the auxiliary track.

#3 About to cross the Mississippi River, and roll past Target Field.

Nice series of photos from a location I've never seen before! Not being familiar with the area, would this train be going into or out of Northtown Yard, or did it bypass the yard completely? Is this a heavily trafficked line, or does it not see much use?

Outstanding view in #2!

Dalton, this train most likely originated at Northtown. It's on its way to Willmar, MN. This line has become very busy the past five years. BNSF, TC&W, UP, and Northstar commuter trains use this track. There is talk of making this line double track again. It's former Great Northern.

The wayzata sub ran behind my house in SLP. I remember the GN trains running down there. They would have had to pass this same way 40 years ago.

I also LIKE Pic 2!!!
