Western Railroad Discussion > BNSF westbound on Nicollet IslandDate: 10/20/14 20:37 BNSF westbound on Nicollet Island Author: alco636 All photos shot October 17th, 2014 in Minneapolis, MN. Not many photos seem to be shot on Nicollet Island. I was happy to catch something.
#1 Looking west towards downtown Minneapolis. A westbound is coming soon. #2 Slowing rolling across Nicollet Island. Tie work had been done recently on the auxiliary track. #3 About to cross the Mississippi River, and roll past Target Field. Al Seever Phoenix, AZ Edited 1 time(s). Not being familiar with the area, would this train be going into or out of Northtown Yard, or did it bypass the yard completely? Is this a heavily trafficked line, or does it not see much use?

This line has become very busy the past five years. BNSF, TC&W, UP, and Northstar commuter trains use this track. There is talk of making this line double track again. It's former Great Northern.
Thank you SP8595. I was in the right place, at the right time. Al Seever Phoenix, AZ Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/20/14 21:19 by alco636. Date: 10/20/14 21:18 Re: BNSF westbound on Nicollet Island Author: syscom3 Is this still called the Wayzata Sub?

They would have had to pass this same way 40 years ago.
