Western Railroad Discussion > Like shooting fish in a barrel....Date: 10/21/14 07:40 Like shooting fish in a barrel.... Author: Super_C Depending on circumstances, the subject line just as easily could be "Feast or Famine". In this case, the current subject line applies....and so does "Feast".
All three pictures were taken within the span of a minute. I am sitting on some rocks that overlook about a mile of Santa Fe's Crookton Cutoff (now BNSF of course) a few miles west of William Junction, AZ. I have two trains approaching from opposite directions; what to do? I take a shot of the eastbound vehicle train first and immediately pivot while still seated and shoot the westbound stack train. The third shot was pure luck; the head ends met just below my perch. Like I said, "Like shooting fish in a barrel". On the other hand, recently I was at the same location and never saw a train for 3 hours! That is "Famine". JCL Date: 10/21/14 07:41 Re: Like shooting fish in a barrel.... These are great shots! Thanks for sharing them, but watch out for the snakes when you are out along the Crookton line change... Thanks again! Excellent shots and meet timing at my favorite spot to shoot on the Crookton Cutoff - "Coxcomb Hill". In shot number 1, you are looking down at the East Perrin Crossover, M.P. 383.1; the eighth auto-rack is passing the Main Two absolute signal. Here is a map of Coxcomb Hill with route annotations, and a shot from Santa Fe days. Bob ATSF100WEST......Out Date: 10/21/14 13:56 Re: Like shooting fish in a barrel.... Author: WAF All that climbing is good for you, John. Not practicing dying like many senior citizens

Thanks for the map and your shot. This is a post about the same location taken a week earlier: http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,2971651,2971651#2971651 JCL Edited 1 time(s). Ted Curphey Ontario, OR Date: 10/21/14 20:36 Re: Like shooting fish in a barrel.... Author: PCTZ Now those are some amazing pics! Brings back great memories of a trip in 1995 that resulted in a cracked oil pan on the rent a car from "hopping rocks" on the maintainance road!
