Windy Cool Day On Ther BNSF
Author: Ritzville

Weather has turned to fall with .10 of rain last night turning cool and windy today at Ritzville, WA on the BNSF Lakeside Sub. Traffic was somewhat light today. I also hit the wrong key and deleted all my last evenings pictures. Here are some of the trains that went thru the backyard today, plus a few trip pictures.

1. WB 929am oil train with BNSF 7787-9953 on the point with DPU's.
2. DPU's BNSF 7527-4454 on the push on same train.
3. WB 955am manifest train with warbonnet 913 and BNSF 916 on the pull.

13. A now working old NP semaphore located at the Ritzville Depot museum. It was dedicated last Saturday morning. Picture by L.R. Keith.

On with the trip to California.

This next set of pictures taken on 9/29/14 are just documentation of older signals being taken out of service, kinda sad for me, being a liker of the old stuff of the steam and early diesel era.

14. Old SP pole line still up along the now UP just south of Chiloquin, OR.
15. Old SP target cantilever signal just taken out of service railroad east of Modoc Point, OR.

16. Old SP target cantilever signal taken out of service possibly that day at CP Modoc Point. OR, since there were about 15 groups of signal maintainers working along the way with all new dark vader signals lit up for being cut in. Very sad for me to watch that day.
17. Pole line still in place along Klamath Lake on Hwy US97.
18. Last old SP cantilever signal at CP Mid Cut? just north of the city of Klamath Falls, OR. You can barely see two men working on metal poles on the left side of signals.

That's it for now. Have a nice evening and thanks so much for looking.

Larry

Nice photos, Larry. There's never a dull moment in Ritzville, nor on a road trip. You always either come to something interesting, or something interesting comes to you!

Larry,

Great photos as usual, including the ones from your trip south. Glad you had a safe vacation and I look forward to seeing more from your trip. I love that stretch of the Shasta Route along Klamath Lake. It was always great to be having breakfast along there on the Coast Starlight looking at Mt Shasta behind us in the distance and Mt McLoughlin to the west across the lake. Welcome home!

Your right Tor, never a dull moment in Ritzville, and is always interesting what your run into on the road. I agree with you ShastaDaylight I've loved that stretch on US97 along Klamath Lake with the old SP right next to everything. Sure going to miss the target cantilever signals, been observing those for over 40yrs. It looks kind of empty and boring when it comes to the dark vader signals. It was great hearing from you both!

Larry,

I agree regarding the cantilever signal masts on the Shasta Route, and the searchlight signals they supported. UP was in the process of changing them out when I drove along there in July. Another part of the Shasta Route I have known and loved for decades fading into the past...

Best wishes,

ShastaDaylight
