Progressive Rail (PGR) question
Author: hrxcjg

We are in the Minn/StP area and would love to see Progressive Rail's MNS painted SD's. Where might we go to see them?

If they run anything like the F40s Progress rebuilt for Metra you might try the nearest shop.

Progress Rail is a national railroad supplier and contractor. Progressive Rail is a short line with operations in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa.

As for the locomotives in question, I believe they are moving frac sand on one of the Wisconsin lines.

PGR 40 and PGR 42 are assigned to the Wisconsin Northern and are no longer in Minnesota. They are based out of Norma WI near Chippewa Falls, about 90 minutes east of the Twin Cities.

Do they still have the GP15s over there, too, or have those been reassigned elsewhere?

Yes the 2 GP-15's are both still on the WN and in service. Most often they are used for the non sand manifest traffic and certain locations where a 6 axle unit is not best suited.
