An Overcast Rainy Day On The BNSF
Author: Ritzville

Today was an overcast drippy rainy day in Ritzville, WA on the BNSF Lakeside Sub at 59 degrees and .19 of rain so far. I had to take most pictures today on my covered patio to keep the camera dry. Here are some of the trains from last evening and today along with a few trip pictures.

1. EB 531pm auto rack/intermodal train with BNSF 6623-4875 on the point.
2. Another shot of same train.
3. EB 545pm auto grain train with BNSF 4690-4124-7404 on the pull, no DPU.

Now for a few trip pictures from 9/29/2014.

18. Made it to California only to hit lots of construction once I got on I-5 and especially Hwy 99.
19. US97 crossing at Dorris, CA on the old SP now UP. Dorris is the first town in California. There was lots of MOW work going on there. Still hadn't upgraded the crossing signals, still had mechanical bell.
20. CP Dorris with the new dark vader signals, and MOW equipment parked to the side. I remember the targets two years ago. Pole line is still in place for now.

21. Old SP pole line still in place between Dorris and MacDole, CA. I'm sorry, I have always liked pole lines and I'm sorry to see them disappear, part of the old steam era.
22. Majestic Mt. Shasta seen from US97. Beautiful volcano mountain!

That's it for today. Have a nice evening everyone and thanks so much for looking!

Your final picture of Mt Shasta is awesome! When traveling to CA, I really like the Dorris area. Thanks for the memories :)

'Bout time to take a big set of nippers to some of those tree limbs. They're encroaching on your viewing angles.

I was just thinking that also. When the rain stops, will have to do some pruning.

Wow, I just can't fathom how you can sleep next to the tracks 2 blocks from a crossing with all the horns. Did you really get used to it, or do they still wake you up?

Believe it or not you get used to it and sleep right thru most trains, at first when I moved in years ago, I heard every train, LOL. I get 8hrs sleep every night. I've found it very interesting living next to a busy mainline and wouldn't feel right without all the action everyday. The whistling at the crossings is music in the wind, LOL.
