on the road again day eight . .
Author: 3rdswitch

. . began this last day along the KCS early as not to miss any opportunities and before the sun came up I heard KCS console nine tell a southbound he would be meeting one at Watts (six miles south of my overnite location). Not too many places to get a northbound this time of year. Southbound ended up being my first BNSF led train of this KCS journey but northbound was UP coal empty with KCS leader. While waiting on the overpass at Gentry, AR noticed one of KCS unique RCE only SD40-2's sitting in the house track so shot him (top) before returning for a shot of the northbound coal empty (middle). The DS informed him that he would be meeting one at Noel a bit further north. While in pursuit passed the OFTEN photographed stuffed and mounted F and caboose next to the Decatur depot (bottom) . . nine more to come . . .

. . . not sure why but it took this guy over half hour to cover six miles but finally showed up at the only crossing in Sulpher Springs (top) and the DP's were a very pleasant surprise curving away (middle). He ended up waiting more than an hour at Noel for this southbound 1x1 manifest at Lanagan (bottom). . . .

. . . it turned out to be an all Belle day on the KCS as his DP was also a Belle going away at Lanagan (top). The northbound coal empty finally left Noel and passed over the nice bridge at Elk Springs along with his DP going away (middle and bottom) . . .

. . . following closely behind was this northbound BNSF coal empty also crossing the bridge at Elk Springs coming and going (top and middle). Realizing how far I still had to go to get home decided to head west and passing over the KCS mainline south of Pittsburg saw an approaching headlight which turned out to be a southbound UP led coal load ending this last full day of fanning.

Great set of shots JB--especially like standing on the bridge for morning shots at Lanagan--excellent choice.

Great stuff. Can you provide a bit more information on your first pic of the SD40? Why are the windows boarded up?
Thanks.
