Last stored SD90's left Dunsmuir this afternoon
Author: photobob

The last of the stored power has finally left Dunsmuir. They were pulled out of town about 2:30 this afternoon. They are leaving a little lighter then when they arrived as most have had their horns stolen among other items. Good riddance as I was getting tired of looking at them.

You would think they could have found a more secure storage area. The Bailey yard never looks full to me.

Yes, they sure are! That rear engine, which by the way is now the WP 8295, has this note" Route to Harbor Rail Service in Fresno, CA for return to service work".

WP??? UP is buying engines and numbering them as WP engines??

Can't believe all the horns were stolen. I wish the CHP would confiscate them when they find them on big rigs. They're way too loud and startle drivers terribly, which is not good--it goes beyond "alerting" and becomes "scaring."

They were such a nice backdrop for the ~16 months they were there.

I remember when they went through and updated them to "WP" to make room on the roster for the new GEs. Too bad they didn't put on some WP lettering.

If you have one on a rig better have the paperwork also as they usually check for it I have been told by a driver. Seems strange that they would be stolen and no one caught doing it as the rail cops seem to catch others trespassing.

The stolen horns on the West coast was a discussion point about a year ago. There had also been a couple of guys wondering around the mid-west collecting them from parked equipment as well. Somebody was caught but they didn't share their story with us so we simply don't have anything recent.

Yup, walking on RR property in town gets a phone call to the County Sheriff. The RR PO or the local SO will come out, shake you down and send you on your way. Or they might just wave.

They caught the thief.
