Western Railroad Discussion > MP SD 40-2 Numbering QuestionDate: 10/30/14 20:10 MP SD 40-2 Numbering Question Author: 6088 Good evening,
What number series of MP SD40-2 locos had dynamic brakes, in the Screaming Eagle scheme? Thank you for the help, 6088 Date: 10/30/14 20:29 Re: MP SD 40-2 Numbering Question Author: mopac1978 MP bought what they termed SD40-2c engines with dynamic brakes. The first bunch were 3216 thru 3235 built in 1976, but they were renumbered in May 1978 to 6000-6019. In 1979 they bought a bunch more, these came as 6020 thru 6053, and a final order in 1980 brought 6054 thru 6073. The screaming eagle paint scheme was changed in 1974 to the version without the large white eagles on the sides, replaced with larger 20" numbers, and the eagle buzzsaw on the cab along with wider nose chevrons. Thus, all of these SD40-2c engines came in the newer scheme.

Not D&RGW specs as that would have made them SD40T-2's Date: 10/31/14 05:02 Re: MP SD 40-2 Numbering Question Author: Rathole The Mars lights were for DRGW specs.

They also had a radio with more channels than normal for the era, and IIRC, Rio Grande style snow plows. Seems there were some BN items too, but don't hold me to that one.
