UP 1983 has been entirely repainted at Jenks Shops in North Little Rock in the Western Pacific heritage scheme, looks like new. It's supposed to go the service tracks in the North Little Rock yards soon then be on the road again. It took longer than expected because of a delay in getting the Western Pacific official decals. Remember that this is the loco that was burnt in an engine fire last summer. Even though only one side was burnt, the paint shop at Jenks sandblasted and repainted the entire locomotive.

It is nice to see that UP is serious about keeping the Heritage paint schemes, it could have been painted yellow much easier. === === = === JLH

Just to be clear, I was at Jenks Shops today, but these photos were taken by someone else, who gave me permission to share anywhere, but didn't want to be identified.

Wonder did they give her a complete overhaul?

If only they could do this for a couple other heritage units now, if even just spraying that silver again on the underframe.

It's a "nice" paint scheme, but, something in silver and orange with Zephyr Gothic lettering would have been much more "WP".

Definitely. I think the Zephyr silver and orange colors would lend themselves nicely to a split design like the other Heritage paint schemes.

QNLNP-21 with 1983 left N Little Rock 855 a.m. 11/21 ** Passing Conway AR 10:42 a.m. ** Scheduled Russellville AR 108pm ** heading to Kansas City then North Platte, expected at Kansas City Saturday Nov 22 in the afternoon, then North Platte Sunday Nov 23 early in the morning. It's cloudy, rainy and cool here not compared with the sunshine yesterday when the photo of 1983 was taken.

It's almost in Kansas City this morning, the train Call for Kansas City is 800 a.m., expected arrival 8:50 a.m. Running ahead of the previous traces.

Interesting that there isn't a green outline on the letters "WP" on the cab, it was there on the first paint job.
