Five Railroads, One Grain Train
Author: zchcsse

While enjoying the nice weather this morning around Needles, CA, I caught this westbound BNSF grain train at Park Moabi, CA. Park Moabi is along BNSF's Seligman Subdivision and is located between the Colorado River crossing at Topock, and the city of Needles, CA.

This grain train was a "Triple Penetrator" and was in a 5x3x2 configuration. The head 5 motors were BNSF/BNSF/CSX/NS/UP so the 'Big 4' U.S. railroads were all represented. The middle three locomotives were all BNSF and of the rear two, one was a gray KCS (on the rear facing out). To top that all off, about 2/3 of the train was made up of brand new covered hoppers. The only thing this train lacked was a Heritage Hopper!

So enjoy this clip of an interesting grain train curving through Park Moabi in the Mojave Desert. The entire train is shown.

Thanks for watching!

Neat! Sounds like a swarm of angry bee's. Where's all this grain headed? Is it for export?

These "Triple Penetrator" grain trains head to California's Central Valley. I believe they are cattle feed or something.

I'm aware of that. The most appropriate title, then, would be "Five Railroads (Represented In the Locomotive Consists), One Grain Train". But that's a little wordy for a subject line, and I sincerely doubted that anyone on T.O. would think after reading the post and/or seeing the clip that 5 railroad companies came together to move one grain train at the same time.

"Five Railroads, One Grain Train" fits the subject matter and describes what I hoped to see.

Very Nice!! I just wished that the railroad was still called the Burlington Northern Santa Fe. I hate just letters such as BNSF and CSX etc. But we have no say. Otherwise CSX would be the Chessie Seaboard Railroad.

Awesome video, really liked the head-end appearing in the far distance really giving a nice perspective against the dramatic scenery.

BTW, I know exactly what you meant with the title. :-D

Some grain winds up being exported at Stockton port.

Why the extra power? This is usually 3-2-1 configuration. Late?
