Fresh Angle At A Favorite Spot

With the Pacific Ocean lapping up on Jalama Beach below, a 68-car train of empty auto racks stretches out on the bluff and heads south about 3 this afternoon.

While Jalama is a bit of a haul from my house — 75 miles, including 14 down a winding, dead-end road — it usually ends up being a worthwhile trip. Today was no exception. I caught four southbound trains there. The auto racks were first through, followed by Surfliner 790, the Tuesday hauler from Guadalupe and finally Amtrak 11, the southbound Coast Staright, which rolled through during the blue hour.

There was an article in yesterday's SF Chronicle about a new firm that will "rent" high-tech devices, like photography drones, so prospective buyers and/or occasional users can give them a whirl. You could probably link to it as sfgate.com.

Renting out drones to first-time pilots -- what could possibly go wrong?
