Cargill 305 & CORP 3809 Info Needed
Author: CrudPunko

What do Cargill No. 305 and CORP 3809 have in common? I need their pedigree for my photo database. If anyone can fill in the gaps or point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

The Cargill unit is at the plant near (at?) Devore on the west slope of Cajon Pass and the CORP unit is at Weed CA.

Thanks in advance.

Cargill 305 is no longer at Verdemont. And it has slug connections on the long hood end.

The only thing these locomotives have in common is both units now call Northern California home. The CORP unit, assuming it is still on that property, is based out of Weed, California; and the Cargill unit is now an industry switcher in Stockton, California.

But if you add the bell and winterization hatch, it says "NP"! It is the details that count.

Correct, rooftop air tanks alone don't get it.

Those rooftop air tanks allowed more fuel and water to be carried, and mostly came with those locos equipped with steam generators. NP seemed to the be the exception and ordered the roof tanks for freight service locos in order to boost fuel capacity.

Some roads that ordered steam generator equipped GP's with roof tanks include:

ATSF
MILW
NYC
B&O
IC
SP
MP
WAB
SOO
CV
CNW

At Cargill's facility at the south end of UP's Stockton yard. It replaced the ex-BN SW1 they previously used there.

CORP 3809 is now CEFX 3809 it was a part of a group of RA GP38-3s that were "traded" to CEFX for the many SD45R's & SD45T-2's that RA Aquired.

CEFX got 3800-3812 & 3864....
