Western Railroad Discussion > Union Pacific/SI Ry Eastport-Tacoma oil trainDate: 12/22/14 08:15 Union Pacific/SI Ry Eastport-Tacoma oil train Author: hawkinsun The South bound Union Pacific unit oil train sneaked through Vay, Idaho at 03:05 12/22/2014. It was so quiet with new round wheels that I couldn't wake up in time to catch the power, or get a car count. The last train about a week ago or so, had ninety-nine new PPRX tanks with a sacrificial hopper at each end.
Anybody know where this train originates or about how frequently it will run ? hawkinsun Vay, Idaho Date: 12/22/14 09:21 Re: Union Pacific/SI Ry Eastport-Tacoma oil train Author: bradleymckay hawkinsun Wrote:

The oil train to PAA originates at Hardisty, Alberta. UP is installing the last of the signals and infrastructure on the Ayer Sub to extended CTC to UP Jct in Marshall Canyon. Once that is done sometime in early 2015, the signal crews will move to the Spokane Sub. No official plan has been released for the Spokane sub yet Date: 12/23/14 10:55 Re: Union Pacific/SI Ry Eastport-Tacoma oil train Author: Washy The oil train that came south yesterday was another Bakersfield load, the Tacoma load now on the lie up for early Christmas eve morning... As for the CTC installation on the Ayer Sub., the whole sub is or shortly will be wired for CTC, the hang up is still Cheney, it was supposed to be done two years ago and I still don't think there's been any dirt moved.. Also the siding at Joso needs to be extended another 1,000ft north. If the Ayer sub gets full CTC it won't be till at least the third quarter.. Look for a mass of amount of work to be done on the SI this year, with the oil traffic now running the UP is really behind the ball on capacity on the north end, though it has been impressive to see them running as many as fourteen train a day up there, not sure how but it's being done...
