Was this a standard grade crossing signal?
Author: WrongWayMurphy

I ran across this the other day in SE Dallas, town used to be called Kleberg until
Dallas annexed it in the late 70's. Rail line was the Texas & New Orleans' (SP)
Jacksonville Sub. Tracks were pulled up in the 80's. It this a typical grade crossing,
with light housings just twisted around , or is it something else?

Yep, crossing signals, missing some parts of course.

Is this on live track? I always thought the rule was "If you've got it - it has to work." I suspect this one doesn't work.

In addition, it appears that some big model railroaders hand needs to come back and straighten the power pole in the back.

You guys can make fun, but he has a point- that base cabinet IS kind of unusual. I've never really paid a lot of attention to crossing gates, but I can't remember seeing a base like that.

Can't speak as to others, but very common on the SP and UP out west, which mostly went away when they went to the larger flashers and fiberglass gates (versus "A" frame wooden gates). Think it was a General Railroad Signal device.

The ones like that in California were mostly Griswold.

He did say the tracks were pulled up in the 1980s. Just surprising they didn't remove it.
