Plenty of Wind on the Cimarron.....
Author: wyemarsh

On Tuesday, Jan. 27, while traveling through southwest Kansas, I spotted the Cimarron Valley RR mixed freight heading towards Montezuma, Satanta and points west.

Photo #1 - The CVRR ambling along about 10 mph past a couple of the many wind electrical generator towers comprising the Gray County Wind Farm that covers a lot of farmland in the area.

Photo #2 - CVRR end car clearing the crossing....lot of rock ballast used on this line in an effort to anchor the ties and rails to the earth!

Photo #3 - ....and CVRR with about 25-30 cars slowing moving towards Montezuma, KS.

Kansas is so beautifully boring. Pure Americana in those shots, right there. Is that another railroad line at far left in the last photo?

No adjacent railroad right-of-way.......that's U.S. Highway 56.

It seems the wind never quits blowing out there,

I didn't know the CVR had ballast except on the Cimarron river bridge........
