Love those SD40-2s! - Western Railroad Edition
Author: judahrice

I am starting a thread here to post your SD40-2 pics. I will also post one on the Eastern Railroads forum. To start off...

1) burnt up, likely beyond repair in Denver

2 & 3) BN SD40-2 pair in Galesburg area...

Post on! Can't wait to see 'em

A fitting addition to flare Friday (which is pretty cool.)Maybe we can call it Forty-Friday. My contribution is a SB Canadian Pacific manifest, north of Portage WI. Oct 18, 2014.

1. Of the snoot variety: KCS 680 visiting Pocatello, ID in 1992, snoot-to-snoot with a UP twin. Pocatello is still a good place to look if you're trying to find SD40-2's today.

2. Of the tunnel variety: DRGW 5390, 5371, and 5401 on the legendary "dirt train" at Mounts, UT in 2002.

3. Of the high nosed variety: NS (SOU?) 3231 snowbirding in Mesa, AZ in 2005. This was the only time I've ever seen six axle power on the the spur that runs south from Mesa through Chandler. I assume the usual pair of geeps was having technical difficulties, as they were parked on a lumber mill spur and the NS SD40-2 plus two SD60M's were working the line that day.

A single non merger painted 40-2 leads a westbound Santa Fe "extra Harbor" on the Harbor Sub through Harbor City, CA 3-88.

Thought I would throw in some MoPac from the late 80's. Not much TLC evident.

I'll go again.

1. SBD 8148, gently patched to CSXT, Pocatello, ID, 1993.

2. CNW 6901, also at Pocatello, 1994.

3. A little more recently, TRRA 3002 and 3006 working the hump in East St Louis, 2014.
