Western Railroad Discussion > Love those SD40-2s! - Western Railroad EditionDate: 01/30/15 15:53 Love those SD40-2s! - Western Railroad Edition Author: judahrice I am starting a thread here to post your SD40-2 pics. I will also post one on the Eastern Railroads forum. To start off...

Of the snoot variety: KCS 680 visiting Pocatello, ID in 1992, snoot-to-snoot with a UP twin. Pocatello is still a good place to look if you're trying to find SD40-2's today.
2. Of the tunnel variety: DRGW 5390, 5371, and 5401 on the legendary "dirt train" at Mounts, UT in 2002. 3. Of the high nosed variety: NS (SOU?) 3231 snowbirding in Mesa, AZ in 2005. This was the only time I've ever seen six axle power on the the spur that runs south from Mesa through Chandler. I assume the usual pair of geeps was having technical difficulties, as they were parked on a lumber mill spur and the NS SD40-2 plus two SD60M's were working the line that day.
