Mojave Sub defect detectors
Author: 43197

I see several large bridge type defect detectors have recently been set up on the Mojave sub between Mojave and Bakersfield, replacing old structures. The picture shows the new large structure located near Monolith which was at MP363, but is now located at MP364.?. Not in use as of yet. A like bridge structure has turned up at MP328 Bena, MP318 looks to be the old one and not viewed MP347.

UP8219, UP4010, UP7148 pass below the structure on 29 January with a southbound manifest.

These look to be high/wide load detectors. Has there been any trouble
on Tehachapi with oversized loads in the tunnels, or are they just upgrading
the equipment?

They are also used to detect any loads that may have shifted, which would cause havoc in the tunnels

Nick,
These would more than likely be an upgrade as you mentioned. Those Hi-Wide detectors are a must for containers that are going west through the TEH-BKFLD tunnels.
