Western Railroad Discussion > A few from this week - UP Sharp Sub / Echo CanyonDate: 03/01/15 20:47 A few from this week - UP Sharp Sub / Echo Canyon Author: mpaul101 Here are a few pictures I snapped from this past week. I am no master photographer - as rail photography is new to me.
Photo 1) The hot local 'LUL57' rolls south through Santaquin UT on UP's Sharp Sub. This local runs the length of UP's Sharp Sub on most days depending on car load traffic. The best part - almost always under the power of a trio of SD-40s. This train leaves Provo yard 8am M-F. It's counter part (the LUL58)leaves at 8pm and runs as a night job hauling fly-ash & butane gas to Intermountain Power in Delta UT. Photo 2) Jumping to Echo Canyon UT - new signals up - looks like they are about to change over to PTC. Photo 3) UP 7775 leads a stack train towards Ogden. Don't you love those big ol' hoods on those UP signals? A nice surprise in this train - a CSX unit! (And yes - my camera is out of focus in photo 5).
Photo 6) The coal loads squeal up the grade toward York summit. Long Beach coal loads have been loading frequently at the Bowie & West Elk mine in Colorado. They seems to have about 4 train-sets on rotation. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/01/15 20:59 by mpaul101. It's nice to see variety of power on UP coal loads. Usually UP coal trains are laced with grimy old GE's.
Photo 8) UP 7788 serves as our 'caboose' as the train rolls south - Thanks for looking! Date: 03/01/15 21:55 Re: A few from this week - UP Sharp Sub / Echo Canyon Author: coach Yes, I love the OLD hooded tri-lights, because they're BIG and you can see them!
Why UP would install wimpy, smaller signals to replace them, while CSX and NS are using bigger signals, I can't understand. Date: 03/01/15 22:59 Re: A few from this week - UP Sharp Sub / Echo Canyon Author: atsf121 Nice photos, I like the CNW lightning bolt.
