IAIS 516/513 Heritage Night Variety
Author: robj

3/1 to 3/2 2015 Council Bluffs to Blue Island(CBBI-30), shots from Bureau(Jct)to Joliet, Illinois.

All shots are existing light with all the warts that the mixed lighting brings.

Was a nice comfortable night out with temps in the high teens, little wind and clear skies.
Train made good time with no holdup for CSX at Ottawa Yard so little waiting around.
Little scary tho, seems there was cars pulled over for some traffic stop every 15 miles
plus right after I got to Ottawa there were emergency vehicles all over for an accident.

1 and 2) Standard coming and going at Ottawa, don't want to forget 513.

3) In Your Face at Joliet Gateway etc (Metra Station).

Thanks to Erik and all others for updates on IAIS group

4) Along the former Metra platform at Joliet Union station.
5) On JUS platform, if nothing else, shows the gating in place, now no Metra, they can pull up right to the diamond to wait.
6)Peru, with a little coverup

Great work, Bob, especially Ottawa and Joliet shots. I would love to know the exif on your photos - ISO, shutter speed, etc. They came out beautifully!

Man, I'm really liking #4 at Joliet. Is it normal for them to pull right up to the diamonds and wait with the new configuration? For god knows how long, they've held them over at Rockdale until they're ready to go.

Took me by surprise also. My guess is it helps the timing as they can pull up and wait next to the signal and be ready to go when
they get cleared. They were not there long this time.

Great photos Bob,
That was the district I worked before heading west. You have some super night shots. I remember my conductor's training trip when we made a set out at Ottawa yard and the conductor told me I will show you how we deliver the waybills. He wrapped them around a fusee with a rubber band and as we passed the depot he threw them off the caboose toward the depot platform. Except this evening his toss was a little high and they went through the bay window and landed on the operator's desk. He looked at me and said "Well he won't have to look to far for them".

Beautiful work and photos! What was the ISO setting on your camera for these?

Well done,
