FXE on point of UP ballast train
Author: oyw

I received a tip early this morning from a friend that Ferromex 4677 would be leading a UP ballast train down Cajon, then out the Sunset Route. The full consist was FXE 4677, 4695, UP 4794 and CSXT 7670, nice but the problem being that the weather here in SoCal has been absolutely horrible and today was no exception. But having the day off work and the potential for storm light, I figured a good old-fashioned cloud fight was in order. Your basic San Timoteo Canyon chase, here are a few shots where the sun managed to cooperate.

1) West of El Casco, the 4677 ran at restricted speed thanks to a train ahead. The loaded ballast train was made up of all green UP work hoppers.

2) A head-on shot just east of the San Timoteo Road crossing near Hinda.

3) The entire train as seen from the Centennial Bridge in Beaumont. This was the last of the sun and minutes later, I found myself driving home in a downpour.

As always, thanks for looking.

Damn nice trio Bob! You sure always manage to find those "sucker holes" of light when you're fighting the clouds. Well done sir!

Awesome catch with the clouds. Be thankful for the rain - California has been in a drought too long.

Excellent shots, Bob. As if that consist wasn't good enough you were able to catch it in some beautiful storm light, very well done.
