Western Railroad Discussion > Missed ItDate: 03/03/15 08:41 Missed It Author: ntharalson Over on the Model Railroading Board there was an early post about an anniversary.
I expected someone to say something on this board, however, I've seen nothing. So, it's time to mark the anniversary of the Burlington Northern, March 2nd, 1970. What James J. Hill and his successor sought for 70 years came together in what must be called the most successful merger of the 70's. Remember, this was the era of the Penn Central and the collapsing northeast rail scene. Do we miss the component parts of the BN? You bet we do. But, I also miss the big Green machine that ignited the Wyoming coal boom and gave me many hours of enjoyment trackside. Now, it's coming up on twenty years since the BN disappeared. Time flies when you're having fun. Happy belated Anniversary, BN. Nick Tharalson, Marion, IA P.S.: I see they got it on the Nostalgia Board. Duh! nt Edited 1 time(s). I had just started shooting slides and it was a wonderous time of mixed paint schemes. F units and little GeePs still abounded and industrial sites were filled with Baldwins, FMs, ALCos, and even some Limas were still to be found. Amtrak was still in the future. Dang, now I am getting sad over what we have lost and what we find today.
