Western Railroad Discussion > LA River ActionDate: 03/03/15 09:42 LA River Action Author: rbmn5022 Sunday was part of a miserable weather week in Los Angeles, which in general was a bummer but enabled some angles that wouldn't have worked under traditional sunny California skies. Here's three above the LA River.
1.) The First Shift LATC Hostler crew heads south the East Bank Line of the Metrolink River Sub. 2.) KSILB 28 follows with five units including a Dash 9 leader. KSILB appears to be a new train added relatively recently, and it makes a setout at City of Industry which requires it to take this routing instead of the more common LA Sub to the south. 3.) An Amtrak yard job brings #3 into their yard off the West Bank Line of the River Sub with an ATSF SD40-2 leading a P40 and P42. JB Date: 03/03/15 10:07 Re: LA River Action Author: cchan006 I've been quietly enjoying your Alameda Corridor reports recently. (I've posted a report from the south end near Compton few years ago, and survived)
Shot #1 is awesome! Catching the YellowBonnet Chief there is a very nice bonus. Date: 03/03/15 10:07 Re: LA River Action Author: erielackawanna Who the heck would wait for trains on that bridge in that area on that kind of a day??????
Good stuff, well done. Date: 03/03/15 10:37 Re: LA River Action Author: JimBaker Why the Wind Sock in the yard in Photos 1 & 2?
--jim Baker Date: 03/03/15 10:45 Re: LA River Action Author: CR3 Nice to see an area where I worked on and off for many years. The river looks a lot better with the grafetti painted out. I doubt if it will stay that way for long though.
Ray Date: 03/03/15 10:49 Re: LA River Action Author: mojaveflyer I've never visited there but I've enjoyed photos from there. The clouds really add something to the scene in addition to what I am guessing is enough shadow to shots at this angle

The KSILB replaced the KEPLB when the Santa Teresa, NM, yard opened up in April, 2014. I read somewhere that the C of I setout was changed to L.A. on 6/23/14 and they went via the LA Sub. Apparently they changed back to C of I and the Alhambra Sub. Thanks for the update! mapboy Date: 03/03/15 13:12 Re: LA River Action Author: rbmn5022 mapboy Wrote:

I retired in 2000 and haven't seen this area since then. Glad to hear that the grafitti clean up is lasting a long time.
