Western Railroad Discussion > "Like" or "Don't Like" and "Why"

This is one of those pictures you just see and take. I saw it in January in Lebanon, OR. I liked it because of the simple car structure and background. The background is what the car hauls. I also wanted the instructions to be legible so I didn't take the standard full broadside shot.

So what do you think? Please use the "Like" or "Don't Like" buttons.

And in the comment box please comment on why.

LIKE! It's a nice glimpse into your creative vision that's behind the excellent pictures you have made for years..or decades as the case may be. It is always refreshing to see pics that, while they may not be stand-alone images, add body, depth and character to the train and the environment you are shooting. Five thumbs up!

I Like! I wish more guys would start taking pictures of the entire train, love the details!

I'll add to the likes, I've always enjoyed taking photos that are not like what everyone else takes. It doesn't have to be just trains, it could be anything. You don't always need to perfectly center the subject, fit the entire subject in the frame etc to make a great photo, it's all about what you are trying to portray.

The trees in the background are soon to be a load on the car in the foreground...rather interesting composition with an empty car returning for more timber.

You captured the part of the train that many of us see and hardly ever record. It is definitely a LIKE!

The image ALSO gives us modelers greater detail to study for weathering purposes....

I'll give it a "like". It's artistic, somewhat different & like a fine wine, will only get better over time. Look at any photo here on TO, particularly the ones that wern't considered all that special when they were initially captured 20, 40, 60+ years ago, & that should put to rest any question whether or not an "average" photo is considered a "keeper" or not.
