IC chocolate brown and orange inspired SD9043MAC for Iowa Pacific
Author: stlrailfan

Never in my imagination did I think I would see a modern SD9043MAC wearing a paint scheme once worn by Illinois Central passenger engines. Luckily the railfan community has guys like Iowa Pacific Holdings president Ed Ellis to make cool things like this happen. As most know Mr. Ellis is a big Illinois Central fan as the IC passenger scheme adorns much of his passenger equipment.
He decided to modify that scheme and apply it to some SD9043MAC's that work on Iowa Pacific's Texas & New Mexico RR. This shot shows TNMR # 111 just out of the paint booth at Metro East Industries in East St Louis, IL March 20th 2015. Taken on private property with both MEI and Iowa Pacific permission.

Looking nice!! The engines out here in the oil patch are a combination of lease and IP. A couple have TNMR on the cab but with Rio Grande (from San Luis and Rio Grande Railroad) on the engine doors. This will make the operation look more professional for the shippers and locals especially since traffic appears to have slowed due to crude oil prices dropping.

Does anyone else think it needs a green diamond on the nose?

If it had head end power, it could be used on the "Hoosier State" when they take it over.

Why yes.  Yes, it does. :-)

Yes, it needs the diamond on the nose.

Looks like we have a 2nd 'Bar Code Unit', judging by those number boards. Great looking engine nonetheless!

I don't think a green diamond on the nose would work too well.  With the grab irons and the door indentation, it would look disjointed.  Maybe, a small diamond would look better, but I don't know.

I'm guessing it's too late to suggest a different stylized logo for this kind of service?

Thanks for the pictures.

Many exciting things happening in the oil patch, I look forward to seeing these units in service soon.

Sick means cool.  Cool means groovy.  I forget what groovy means.

If only Iowa Pacific's operations were all located in native IC territory.

Looks great - as good as a cheese steak in a city outside of Philly.
