Date: 03/31/15 22:51 Re: UPRR Oceano, California Author: JimBaker I would assume the coil cars are emptys.
The springs are riding high. Get them back to Gary or wherever! --Jim Baker Date: 04/01/15 08:15 Re: UPRR Oceano, California Author: ButteStBrakeman Just for information, those cars are in Grover, not Oceano.

Date: 04/01/15 12:17 Re: UPRR Oceano, California Author: lanewsman Just for information, the people at the gas station around the corner and the convenience store down the street, as well as the CHP officer who stopped to see what I was doing, called it Oceano. I saw signs in the area referring to Grover Beach but this siding, across from the entrance to Oceano Dunes, they identified as Oceano.
Date: 04/01/15 12:51 Re: UPRR Oceano, California Author: myjbh1989 It's Grover siding. Not Oceano siding. Oceano is a mile and a half south and has the remnants of an industrial spur and a depot.
Don't argue with people who live here. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/01/15 12:53 by myjbh1989. Date: 04/01/15 14:04 Re: UPRR Oceano, California Author: bradleymckay myjbh1989 Wrote:

Hey I'm old enough to remember when "Grover Beach" was "Grover City"!! Seriously, there has been a slowdown in the steel industry and energy industry. Less need for steel coils. Also the strong US dollar makes imports cheaper. Allen Date: 04/01/15 16:04 Re: UPRR Oceano, California Author: ButteStBrakeman lanewsman Wrote:

I Spent 40 years riding up and down the rails on the coast, as a Conductor and brakeman, between SLO and LA and lived in Grover. But since the CHP and the convenience store people say it's Oceano, IT MUST BE Oceano. As far a gas station, you'd have to go 6 blocks east or so to get there, instead of around the corner. Sorry my friend, your story is full of holes. V SLOCONDR Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/01/15 17:03 by SLOCONDR. Date: 04/01/15 19:51 Re: UPRR Oceano, California Author: lanewsman Amazing. When I snapped the picture of the coil car, I wanted to share it here. Because I only drive this stretch of Highway 1, once a year or so, I asked several locals where I was, as described in an earlier posting. One person later wrote I not diligent enough about getting accurate information. I only know what I was told. If this siding is, in fact, in Grover Beach, I have no argument with that. Maybe the locals I spoke with thought Monday was April Fool's Day? I was particularly intrigued by slocondor's condescending remark. I've been very impressed by most of his work here, but was it really necessary to say my story was "full holes?" What rational reason would I have for misrepresenting the truth, or worse, lying? What's next? Will he allege that I didn't really take the photo of the coil cars? Life is too short for this. Besides, the reason I was in the area was to have dinner at Jocko's and my steak was perfect. I'm reluctant to mention that Jocko's, a place I've dined at for upwards of 48 years, is in Nipomo because that might start another discussion about where something is located.
