Western Railroad Discussion > Drone Foaming Tunnel 2 Tehachapi PassDate: 04/21/15 07:44 Drone Foaming Tunnel 2 Tehachapi Pass Author: gjc UP 7693 leads a south bound intermodal at Tunnel 2. It's day one of a four day railfan trip to Tehachapi Pass, 4/8/15. TO member Curt has the trackside camcorder and I have the drone. I also have a DSLR setup on a tripod recording video for audio purposes.
For those interested Curt is using a Canon XF200, the DSLR is a Canon 70D and the drone is a Phantom 2 with a GoPro Hero 3+. Video edited using Adobe Premiere Pro (new to me). I normally use Corel Video Studio for editing video. George Cataulin San Diego, CA Left Coast Rail Videos You must be a registered subscriber to watch videos. Join Today! get some aerial views of the Allard Horseshoe which is just around that right hand bend from Tunnel #2. There's a great in-cab shot of a meet there on one of the Pentrex videos of Tehachapi I have and a view from above would be awesome also. Nick Tharalson, Marion, IA Date: 04/21/15 09:33 Re: Drone Foaming Tunnel 2 Tehachapi Pass Author: gjc Curt and I did hike over to the Allard Horseshoe from tunnel 2. I hiked in with my drone tied to my backpack. Unfortunately it was very windy. I did fly it for one train and may post the video later here on TO.

a question--in real estate there is something known as air rights--the owner of the surface rights has also air rights is silly as this might seem. there are exceptions to who can use (airplanes) but i wonder if the day is coming when property owners will barr drone usage over their property in the same way they now barr physical trespass. Would/could you comment ? Date: 04/21/15 12:50 Re: Drone Foaming Tunnel 2 Tehachapi Pass Author: engrbill47 George:
Has a silent drone been developed or was the sound dubbed in? Either way, great video! William Jeffers, P.E. San Dimas, CA Date: 04/21/15 13:15 Re: Drone Foaming Tunnel 2 Tehachapi Pass Author: gjc The audio for the drone was dubbed in. I used the audio from Curt's camcorder and the DSLR.

Alan Date: 04/22/15 08:45 Re: Drone Foaming Tunnel 2 Tehachapi Pass Author: dlbowen I have spent many hours at tunnel 2 during my active railfanning years beginning in 1974 but this brings a new and exciting perspective to this area. I noticed the northbound in the distance. Thanks for sharing.

John Miller Conestoga, PA Date: 04/22/15 15:30 Re: Drone Foaming Tunnel 2 Tehachapi Pass Author: mapboy Beauteous! So smooth, and such views! You can see a northbound going thru Bealville. Wish I was a bird!
Gotta be the ZLTLC. mapboy Date: 04/22/15 16:09 Re: Drone Foaming Tunnel 2 Tehachapi Pass Author: DocJones WOW! Fifty one years of railfanning the Tehachapis and that's a perspective I've not seen before. Superb work, especially the audio synch!
Love it, looking forward to more. Have fun, be safe, Bruce "Doc" Jones Sierra Madre CA Date: 04/22/15 18:22 Re: Drone Foaming Tunnel 2 Tehachapi Pass Author: gandydancer4 George, I must admit, the technology is ABSOLUTLEY MIND BOGGLING. The video is crisp and clear and the editing and sound dubbing are very profesional. However, so far, I'm not a fan of "trains from space." I think you got a little high with the drone and lost some of the finer details of the subject but it does give a new dimension to videoing trains. I also didn't care for the "Fish Eye" look on the GoPro either. This might be my fault from looking at trains from ground level for over 50 years and I must admit, it does add a new and definite "wow" factor to the video. Am I a film critic? HELL NO but I do know what I like and I am a BIG FAN of all of your other titles. Overall, great stuff!!
