BNSF Pocket Streamliner
Author: bnsfsd70

On Thursday afternoon, the BNSF ran this "Pocket Streamliner" out of Topeka, KS as the O-TOPKCK (http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,3724444) behind the BNSF 5923.  Typically, when someone refers to a two-car business train on the BNSF, they're referencing one of the track geometry trains, but this one was legit, with business cars "Valley View" and "Red River" pulling up the markers.

The "Valley View" is a 1947 Pullman product, built as the ATSF #62, while the "Red River" is a 1930 Pullman product out of the BN fleet.

Photo 1: The 5923's first warrant was for all of about 5 miles or so from Topeka to the siding at Tecumseh where it would meet the westbound local L71.

Photo 2: Speaking of L71, here it is crossing the Oxbow Lake at Lakeview, KS behind the CREX 1339.  This lake had originally been part of the Kansas River, and this was the first time that I've had a chance to shoot over the lake here while it actually had water in it.  Unfortunately, the clouds had rolled in by this point, so I'll have to come back another time.

Photos 3-5: After meeting the L71 at Tecumseh, the O-TOPKCK got moving east at Lakeview, KS just after the sun set.

For those of you familiar with the Topeka Sub, there was an amazing amount of competing traffic at this point, with the Office train following the local from Lawrence to DeSoto, while the westbound LRT empties were waiting at the Lawrence power plant to head west towards Tecumseh.  Crazy!

deadhead or a shakedown run maybe?

Well, the shades were drawn and it certainly didn't have many passengers on it, so I'm assuming that it was a deadhead move.

From what I heard, the cars were tacked onto the rear of today's Amtrak #4 for Chicago.

The 5908 lead Business Car #7 'Santa Fe' and Car #90 an un-named sleeper.

The two BNSF cars are deadhead to Cinci and delivery to CSXT for Kentucky Derby activity.
They will be on AMTK 50 Saturday
