Not sure if it is winter or spring here in the northland as temps have been a bit on the chilly side with strong snow showers most of the week and now a cold rain today so not much chance for photos after work.  I have been watching the BNSF and contractors busy at work on subgrade for the 2nd main through the swamp\marsh.  South (east) of Grand Crossing the subgrade for the 2nd main and crossovers have a good start as crews are almost to the Gateway Rd bridge.  Supposed to be another set of double crossovers like the Graf and other locations that will be located just south of Grand Crossing to allow trains access to the yard.  Also rumor that Grand Crossing will become a fully automatic where as now the CP does the dispatching.  Beyond the Gateway Rd bridge crews have been fighting the higher water levels as they install wood piles from the bridge to almost the La Crosse River.  At the south end by the Highway 16 bridge crew are also brushing the line and starting to work on the subgrade through the marsh continuing from the Forest Hills area.  The bridge contractor that installed the golf course crossing still have their crane there so they can start on the small one in the marsh just north of the current work area.
 
Note: Gateway Rd is now referred to as River Valley Dr from Gillette Street on south, formerly the large warehouse area to the east of the BNSF line there was Gateway Foods, some of us old timers don't like to change easy.  Said bridge over the BNSF is also referred to as the "Gateway Bridge".  Someday I'll get around to making a cheat sheet for the non-natives as to the various unofficial naming of the area.
