BNSF 8345 south bound at Cliff, Tehachapi Pass, CA.
It's day three of a four day railfan trip to Tehachapi Pass, 4/10/15.  I'm with TO members Curt, Cajon92 and non-TO member "Metal Mike".  Video shot by Curt and myself.  Curt's above the tracks with the going away shot using a Canon XF 200 HD camcorder and I'm trackside using a DSLR Canon 70D.

That's awesome!  Nice new power leading today's incarnation of the "wine" train!

Looks nice out there, especially Curt's view from on high.

Well done.  This video tells a great story on all that is right with railfanning.  Too bad we can't take pictures at the loop today.  Again, you did a great job on this.

George

Love the contrast of your trackside location and the 'up in the hills' of Curt's position . .. Olympia Hiawatha's comment bout not being able to take photos any more at the loop puzzles me . . can you not walk along the little trail on the hill side above the loop anymore?

With the empty woodchip cars at 1:40, I'd say it was the MSTOBAR1 rather than the MMODBAR1.  Both have lots of wine and canned goods.

Edit:  I've been informed that it was the MMODBAR1.  A look around Empire on the M&ET shows that they handle woodchip cars, thus the woodchip cars on the MMODBAR1.

That was a really great video. Is there any problems with getting into the back side of Cliff?
I always had pretty good luck there, but that was 10-12 years ago.
Thanks for making this available.

That venue can only be reached by long hikes down from Rowen or up from Bealville, preferably with the private landowners' permission.  Otherwise....Take to the air.

Cinder,

In your first photo the tunnel in the foreground is Tunnel 7, Tunnel 6 hasn't stood since 1952.

Ordinarily yes getting back to Cliff would involve a long hike however on that day we did have permission from the land owner to not only be on his property but drive in via ranch roads.

Great video as always, George. VOTD for sure.

What an experience to be back in that area via the ranch roads using our three vehicles, two 4x4s and my AWD.  There was no way I could have made it up some of those long, steep and curvy hills without AWD.
Cinder, thanks for posting the two aerial photos of the area.
