Shot with a drone?

Any idea why the original CP right of way was abandoned? Probably not moved for the highway, but I suppose that's possible. What is the partly dismantled track at the lower left of the second image?

Nice pair of photos, Chris. In your second photo, the raised area extending top center to bottom center is, as you say, the former Central Pacific transcontinental line, abandoned in 1903 after UP/OSL completed its Malad Branch west from Brigham to Corinne, over which SP was given trackage rights. The attached screen capture is from my online map of the CP line north of Ogden.

The roadbed adjacent to the current UP line, including the curved portion, is part of the former Little Mountain Branch, built in late 1969 to access the newly-completed chemical plants on the shore of Great Salt Lake. UP abandoned the branch in 1997 after it merged with SP, whose line passed right by the chemical plants on the lake shore. The plants are served today by Utah Railway, under contract to both UP and BNSF, over UP's former SP line west from Ogden.

Just to the east (left) of the current UP line, including the small portion of paved area at lower left, and parallel to the UP line, is the Utah Idaho Central interurban, abandoned in 1947. Completed in 1914 to replace the original Ogden & Northwestern line to Brigham City (on today's U. S. 89), the line paralleled the OSL/UP line from 2nd Street in Ogden, north almost to Willard.
