Western Railroad Discussion > which is busiest?Date: 05/29/15 20:09 which is busiest? Author: mammothlacrosse the UP Overland route or BNSF Southern transcon?
Date: 05/29/15 20:32 Re: which is busiest? Author: florida581 I think BNSF's Southern Transcon is busier overall. It sees 70 or more trains for almost the entire way between Southern California and Chicago. However, the stretch between O'Fallon and Gibbon, NE on UP's Overland is the busiest freight mainline in the country.
Andrew Posted from iPhone Date: 05/29/15 20:39 Re: which is busiest? Author: Dick BNSF's Transcon hit 85 trains in 24 hours when I videotaped it last fall. But Andrew is correct, UP's Triple Track between Gibbon and O'Fallon is over 100 on most days with ~45% of the trains being coal trains.

Author: monsterman529 BNSF southern transcon where I am at sees between 40-60 trains a day. Number can be lower or higher. Always a variety of power and variety of trains.
