Western Railroad Discussion > Texas short-line car observed near Kansas CityDate: 08/04/15 15:43 Texas short-line car observed near Kansas City Author: JoCoLB Sometimes mixed manifest trains hold some little surprises.
While watching a northbound Kansas City Southern Railroad train pull out of a siding at Grandview, Mo., early this afternoon, I observed a box car that I had never seen before. It was a heavily tagged blue car with the name Angelina and Neches Railroad. A quick Google search revealed the ANR is a 11.6 mile line that runs from Dunegan, Texas. to an interchange with the Union Pacific Railroad at Lufkin,Texas. The ANR is headquartered at Lufkin. Heading up the train were KCS engine No. 4804 and Norfolk Southern No. 8855. I see them all the time on Canadian Pacific trains 474 and 475 running through Iowa. I hadn't heard of the railroad at all until I saw these cars and looked it up.
