Western Railroad Discussion > Keokuk Junction Pipe Train (F-units)Date: 08/26/15 15:15 Keokuk Junction Pipe Train (F-units) Author: trainboy03 The Keokuk Junction Railway ran about a 40-car pipe train from the Union Pacific near Peoria, IL to Keokuk, IA today. The F9B which has been out of service for 9 months was repaired and back in service last week. Needing a little more horsepower for the hills, a pair of PREX, ex-ATSF, GP20s were in the consist as well. Thanks to fellow TO member Tim Holmes for keeping me updated on the train's location this morning!

That remines me, I remember in the 90's reading about the Erie Mining/LTV F9's which had been in regular continuous revenue service hauling ore since purchased in the 1950's. What ever happened to them? Cheers, Jim Date: 08/27/15 04:33 Re: Keokuk Junction Pipe Train (F-units) Author: ns1000 I enjoyed the video!!

------------------------------------------------------- > Where is the best place to find those F Units > usually ? The Keokuk Junction F-units are based out of Mapleton, IL (west of Peoria) and operate a couple days a week to Good Hope, IL. At Good Hope, the crew with the F-units swaps trains with a job coming from Keokuk, IA and return to Mapleton with the F-units. Monday is the almost sure bet and Thursday is typically the other day. The night of the eastbound return (or sometimes the following morning), the Mapleton crew will use the F-units to make a transfer run into the TZPR Yard in Peoria. These pipe trains are an extra move and operate when they show up from the UP. This is the second of only a handful of trains. There are supposedly three more pipe trains coming. Great photos and congrats! I was disappointed that I didn't catch any of their trains when we were in the Keokuk area last summer. Thank goodness for trainorders.
