Western Railroad Discussion > Notes from Cheyenne trail #1-Into NebraskaDate: 08/28/15 10:42 Notes from Cheyenne trail #1-Into Nebraska Author: santafe199 On day 1 of my recent western railfan safari I got into some of that golden-bright early morning sunshine along NE hwy 8 between Steele City & Fairbury, NE. ‘Mr Sol’ was just high enough to illuminate subjects, but still low enough to cast a few long shadows. I got my first real ‘train shot’ of the whole trip west of Steele City at an old timetable location named Rudy. I deduced this location from a 24 year old (1991) UP system timetable, so it may be subject to correction. Soon afterwards I found a huge M.O.W. project just coming to morning life closer to Endicott where an old BN (CB&Q) branch crossed the UP main. It still feels strange to see a 6-axle road unit on a work train, but that is the modern trend now-a-days…
1. UP 6684 is eastbound with a routine coal train near Rudy, NE*. 2. UP 4215 sits with its work train near Endicott, NE* 3. Also at Endicott just west of the 4215 is this “GREX”-led string of work (cement tie?) hoppers. (3 photos taken August 14, 2015. *Locations cheerfully subject to correction.) Thanks for riding along! The UP now serves it with a local that, I think, originates in Hastings.
Nice shots! Date: 08/28/15 12:22 Re: Notes from Cheyenne trail #1-Into Nebraska Author: JoCoLB No 3 is my favorite for multiple reasons.

Randy Lundgren Date: 08/29/15 15:04 Re: Notes from Cheyenne trail #1-Into Nebraska Author: wpjones Tim, no spur needed to by built. Just left in the line from the old "Q" crossing to the plant. No one can tell me who owns whats left of the line that has a Wye into the plant and extends about a mile west of the Brick plant. I remember seeing the little narrow gauge swithchers, probably Plymouths, shoving the small hoppers up the incline to dump them in 79 or 80. The small railroad hauled clay from the harvesters to the dump site. At one time they had steamers. You don't have photos of them do you?
I have no photos from the time I was there planting trees. I had not yet caught the Railfan disease and had no camera. I have 1985 pics of both motors. Narrow gauge to boot. My brother has the scanner, so I have to get with him to scan things.
