Nice collection.  That poor thing in Great Bend could sure use some TLC.

When they get to looking like that, many cities look at having it removed from city property, usually to a scrapper unless a group steps up to cosmetically restore it. I don't know how close the ATSF 2926 in ABQ was to being removed from the park before the NM Steam Locomotive and Railroad Historical Society was formed to rescue it. Now after 15 years, she's within a few months of being fired up. To see latest updates, check out this thread:

How many 2-8-0s did UP donate?

That display at Independence, Iowa looks bogus to me.
The caboose looks IC but the locomotive looks like Grand Trunk Western.
Probably acquired via the steel company at Sterling, Ill.

I would take either the Rock Island Pacific, or the cute 2-6-2....,

By far' the best looking one of the bunch is pic #1 of the Burlington loco.  What a brute.

just think. If Steve Sandburg hadn't made a deal for the 261 a "Q" Hudson might be being restored right now. Oh well

My thoughts as well. Hard to believe she is just one number off from the living, breathing 3415.
Nice collection, Brian! There are several here that I haven't seen or shot...

Great pics. Thanks for sharing. Some of them could use a little cleaning and some paint.

You are correct, sir.  The museum people wanted a steam locomotive for their outdoor
display and got this one from Sterling.  They do keep it cosmetically up, and we should
be grateful it's there.
