The loss of this mine for even a year will not be good for the ex...DRGW. Lets hope it is only a year.... Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/02/15 02:32 by jc76. Date: 10/02/15 07:20 Re: Bad News for the ex DRGW Author: mpaul101 This shouldn't effect the amount of coal trains that will run on the ex-DRGW. They will be re-routed to West Elk, CO or Skyline, UT mines (both owned by Bowie). If not, there are mines coming off the Craig branch in Colorado and the Savage coal load out in Utah.
Date: 10/02/15 08:01 Re: Bad News for the ex DRGW Author: BAB It should affect the amount of trains total due to the slow down in coal production and possibly them not reopening the existing mine if things continue being changed over to gas.
Date: 10/02/15 08:36 Re: Bad News for the ex DRGW Author: jc76 There is no doubt this is very bad. That leaves only 2 mines loading trains in the whole state of Colorado.
For Bowie the company..... If Bowie Colorado shuts down they have Sufco(not on the DRGW) DugOut Canyon and Skyline..... That leaves only Arch Coals West Elk and Peabodys Energy (Twentymile) in Colorado. Posted from iPhone Edited 4 time(s). Last edit at 10/02/15 08:40 by jc76. If the information I heard was correct, Bowie only loaded seven trains in September. Hopefully the new longwall being installed will come on-line in a year as they hope. There was an article in the GJ paper the day before this article about the Federal Gov't review process of an 1,800 acre lease is being challenged by an environmental group. It is the same group that sued and won a lawsuit that required additional studies for two mines on the Craig Branch. The article made it sound like it is the same lawsuit strategy aimed at four other mines, Bowie being one of them. The 1,800 acre lease would add 3.5-5 years to the life of the mine. Todd Busse Date: 10/02/15 08:43 Re: Bad News for the ex DRGW Author: jc76 Yes.... Bowie only owns one mine in Colorado.... The rest are in Utah. I added to the post to make it not as confusing :)

I believe Bowie has a entirely different mine OK'd and planned but the coal is supposedly lower quality, in this environment it may never open.... Peabody's new Sage Creek mine is still on hold too as far as I have read.... The massive Red Cliff mine near Grand Junction has been cancelled... I believe the new Lila Canyon mine in Utah could pick up some slack if it is needed..... What would be great is if one of the big concrete companies buys one of the struggling mines like they did King Coal near Durango.... trb Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I believe West Elk is owned by Arch Coal, not > Bowie Resource. > > If the information I heard was correct, Bowie only > loaded seven trains in September. Sorry, jc76, but there are three mines loading coal in Colorado. The third is the Deserado Mine in Rio Blanco County which loads the Deseret Power Ry. This coal does not get onto the ex. D&RGW however, as it is not connected to any other RR. Dick Ebright Roosevelt, UT Date: 10/02/15 09:11 Re: Bad News for the ex DRGW Author: jc76 Lol... How could I forget that operation ;) They supposedly always wanted a outlet for coal to elsewhere... Always wondered why they didn't work out a deal with Axial to truck coal to their loadout near Craig, or just build a load-out near Craig. I believe it's a shorter distance than Sufco or King Coal trucks their product.... Of coarse none of that is needed now....

But only 2 mines in the state actually sending coal anywhere. Dang.
T Date: 10/02/15 13:12 Re: Bad News for the ex DRGW Author: jc76 I'm not sure if Axial is still loading.....I had heard they stopped, but it could have resumed...... According to the Steamboat paper Twentymile signed on for a lot of that tonnage if I'm not mistaken....

Dick Date: 10/02/15 13:17 Re: Bad News for the ex DRGW Author: jc76 I believe he left Trainorders a few months ago.... I'll try to email him and ask, he may know more about Bowie too....
